Hello again We're now in Knysna on the Garden Route in southern South Africa. We still have gorgeous sunshine! Yesterday we spent on the beach in Plettenberg Bay and today we've been exploring Knysna and the shops!
Since we last wrote we went to Robben Island which was interesting if a little sombre. Saw some more penguins and a snake! Visited Jubilee Community Church in Cape Town which was good. Later that day we had lunch at Morgenhof wine farm - had to try the wine! Later in Cape Town checked out the new Indiana Jones film - silly but fun.
Monday morning we drove to Somerset West where we met up with Rachel Allen and visited the pre-school in Lwandle where she works. Thankfully the rioting has stopped and it was calm. We spent a couple of hours with the children talking to them as they drew pictures of the weather. Snow isn't an easy concept in Africa! Helped give out their lunch and watched them line up on the matresses for their afternoon sleep. There wasn't much sleeping going on! Went to Spier winefarm with Rachel for a nice lazy lunch. Again had to sample the wine! We checked out the cheetah rescue programme. Didn't go in to stroke them as it was nearly feeding time!! Another cinema trip to see The other Boleyn Girl.
Tuesday we started on the Garden Route - a long drive (about 6 hours) from Cape Town to Plettenberg Bay. Amazing scenery along the way - hugely varied - mountains, lagoons, sea and desert like barren land. Quite a few ostriches too! Finding a place to stay in Plettenberg wasn't too hard - quite an adventure turning up somewhere with nowhere to stay! Had a fab meal at Miguel's - just in case anyone ever goes to the town!
So back to today. Now off to Oudtshoorn which is about 1.5 hours away. Tomorrow we hope to check out the Cango caves and ostrich farm. Will we dare to ride an ostrich?!?!?!
Thanks to those who've been passing on news from home - it's always great to hear what's going on.
All for now - gotta hit the road again!
Lots of love Chris and Kate xxxxxxxx
