We hire a taxi and driver for a trip to the volcano and a temple visit. We are taken by our guide off the beaten track as we pass through local villages and see the real Bali. The drive takes us up through lush forests with breathtaking views leading towards the impressive paddy fields.
We arrive at our first, and only, temple visit, only 200 steps we are told. At this point Chem, having already seen more than enough temples decide to pass on this one. However Bean (Bernard and Jean) have no such reservations, donning compulsary sarongs and sashes (for a small fee) make their descent to the temple. Well worth the effort until we realised there were nearly 400 steps. Only just made it back! We continue on to a coffee plantation where we sample various coffees, chocolate and herbal fruit drinks. Very yummy!! We then head towards the Ganung Agung live volcano and enjoy some amazing views across the valley and lake. On our return journey we visit the Rimba Reptile Park, where Chris eagerly anticipates meeting the famous Komodo dragons, here we had a chance to handle the giant iguanas! We journeyed back to Ubud to once again sample the delightful restaurants.
