Eventually arrived in Runnenabaque after our flight was delayed for 5hrs, I couldn't believe it, it took of at the exactly the same time the euro 2009 final started, I wasn't happy, but thought I might get to see the last half hr maybe once we got there. The flight was the most cowboy I have ever seen, the plane was tiny, even I couldn't stand up even half straight in it. You pretty much sat down and took off, no one bothered to check if you had your seat belt on. The flight was good though as you got to fly through the Andes past snow capped mountains, we could see out the front of the plane and the runway didn't look to good, it was a grass field that didn't look to smooth, I was expecting a ´brace brace brace´shout from the cockpit but luckily it was a pretty smooth landing.
As soon as we got out the plane and the heat hit us we decided we were staying longer than the planned 3 days to do out Amazon tour. The flight is only 50mins away from La Paz but it's totally different, we are on the edge of the Amazon and thank god it was hot. We are getting a wee bit fed up with the cold temperatures.Jumped on a dodgy looking bus to the town, the driver managed to run down a quad before we'd even left the ¨airfield¨, which was literally a field, but the funniest thing was in the house aka airport, the gate was labelled Gate 1, it was the only gate. So hopes weren't high of the driving standards.
Jumped of the bus and we managed to catch the last bit of the foot ball. GERMANY ARE RUBBISH!! The hostel in la paz had booked us a hostel so we headed there, las tucanas, quickly got changed into our summer clothes that we had brought so much of and headed out for some food. Headed back to the hostel for what we though would be a good nights sleep, little did we know that runnenabaque is the karaoke capital of Bolivia, it went on till 7am stopped for half an hour then started again and half 7, it was the same bolivian song over and over and over!! We tried to say something to the guy at the desk but I think he thought we wanted to go there and just told us how to get there.
Met up with everyone for out fist day of out tour. Turns out annoying German girl from out slat flats had stalked us here!!! Luckily Jesus came to out rescue and she was put in the other jeep. Once again for the 3 tour in a row it was 6 girls me and one other guy, they just can't seem to stay away from me!!! Luckily enough everyone seemed pretty sound and we definitely had the best guide which we would find out later on.Firstly was a 3hr jeep drive on an equally bumpy road to the last one. It got 100times better when we reached our river boats we'd be using for the next 3 days. We headed up river spotting alligators, pink dolphins and some other animals I can't remember, word on the street is people have spotted sloth's here, although I used to work with some I wouldn't mind seeing some again. Got to feed some squirrel monkeys along the way and one of them decided to poop on brid.
Arrived at our lodge along the river. We were sleeping in a big room of 8, there were about 4 other groups there so it was good laugh. Got taken up river a wee bit to watch the sunset and buy some chocolate for later on. Swung in the hammocks for a bit then everyone headed to bed. It was absolutely roasting, no fans or a/c, I thought id pee´d the bed at one point but luckily it was only sweat. Next day we headed off for a 4hr trek into the jungle. We were about half way through when we all figured out that the guide had us looking for poisonous snakes. We walked around for about 3hrs not finding anything except a dead anaconda, until the guide came back with a cobra round his neck, mentalist!! We all got to hold it by the tail and get our pictures with it, don't think they'd let us do that at home!! Started on our way back and spotted a green mamba snake which the guide told us if we were bitten we might not make it back to the lodge, nice. He decided to pick it up by the tail and swing it round his head, Steve Irwin would be rolling over in his grave at this boy! Walked back to the lodge in the blistering heat in our sexy wellies. Brid almost collapsed along the way back about a hundred times. The guide also ate some termites along the way, mink! Fed some monkeys again behind the lodge and then headed of to swim with the dolphins, the water was muddy as, and the guides told us that alligators didn't swim in this part of the river but seeing as we could see them from the boat we didn't believe him, being a bunch of idiot tourists we all jumped in anyway and tried to swim near them, they wouldn't come anywhere near us really, and I was expecting to surf one of then like sea world!!!
On the way back out mental guide suddenly dived of the boat in the bushes and returned with a baby alligator, we all got to hold it before he put it back, worried in case the ma was rightly pee´d off we'd assaulted her son we made a sharp exit! Headed to the sunset bar later that night for a few beverages with the rest of the lodge before sailing back up the river in the pitch black, how he know where he was going i´ll never know, he bombed it back pretty fast, I would have killed everyone for sure. Up early the next day to watch the sunrise, I am starting to get a bit fed up with sunrises and sets, I have seen about 20since I got here and they're all the same. Our guide got so drunk the night before he didn't turn up and he got plenty of abuse when he did show his face around 11 for being a lightweight. Headed off to fish for piranha's, I managed to catch 2 fierce looking sardines, brid caught a red piranha, the guide put us all to shame and caught some cat fish as well. Some of the people ate the fish when we got back but I can't stand fish so just had some weird anonymous meat. Had to head back later that day, one of the girls wasn't feeling to well so I can't imagine she enjoyed the jeep ride that much. We all checked in to the same hostel, hotel Jasmin when we got back to runnenabaque and heading out for some light ales, only 2 pound a night each.
Didn't stay out to long though, some of them were out all night but looked pretty rough the next day.We decided to stay an extra few days and we didn't want to go back to the coldness of La Paz after baking the in the Amazonian heat for a couple of day. We pretty much did nothing for the last 2 days except sit by the pool and bronze. Was going to get some quads out on the last day but the guy that was with us wasn't feeling well and stayed in his bed all day. Just away to head back to La Paz, we need to get out butts in gear as we said we'd only stay in Bolivia 3 weeks and we've been 2 weeks already and we still have tons of places to go.
