hey all.
just landed in buenos aires yesterday morning after a 15 hours flight here, we had a stop at san Paulo and had to circle for and hour then stay on the run way for an hour as there was mental fog, you could see anything! but the good news is there wasnt anyone smelly or "large" beside us although the man beside chris did like his arm space.
ended up meeting up with claire duffy yesterday, so was good to spend the first day with someone who speaks a bit of spanish, i´m trying to learn as i go, chris says i´m the translator!! (i know 2 phrases but cant understand the answers they give me anyway)
the hostel we are in is good, its actually really clean and breakfast was good so were happy out. also there is access to the internet everywhere.
people drive a bit crazy here, and we had an experience on the sub way last night, it was so packed and this man was just leaning back to take the weight off his poor feet, but not against a wall, he was leaning against claires mate Fiona!! nearly squished her.
we went to the town centre today and the cathederal, it was really nice, lisa you would like it from an architectural point of vue, we hava city tour thing lined up at 2.30 today and then we are going to a tango night (chris´s idea LOL) then to a football match tomorrow
i would also like to point out that after continuous laughing at my first aid kit, chris needed it first HA!!! however he says that he didnt really need it. (blister cream)
right i better head on and see what lunch is like in this place, food was a bit s*** yesterday but there is a burger king and a mc donalds nearby so never fear!!
by the was the photo is of the oblisque thing that we are staying next to
we went on a city tour bu bus the tour was really good value and the guide spoke really good english which is good as there is quite a language barrier here. we went to all the main places of interest. the most fascinating thing was a big massive monument of a steel flower which opened and closed at night or day time. it cost 6million dollars to build. the houses of parliment werent anything special from out side but the guide explained to us the reason they are pink....they are painted with animal blood and somthing else. we saw the Boca football stadium, was a bit rough but the market place and that was lovely and there were people tangoing there on the streets, but in Boca (District og BA) there are only 4 streets you can walk down safely! on the square PLaya de Mayo, which is the centre of the town, there was a homeless woman earlier washing her clothes and then when we came back on the bus tour, there were clothes hanging on washing lines all around the massive square!! there were also packs of stray dogs wandering about!
we went to he Tango show then and got an hours lession before dinner and the show. yes even Chris thought it was good fun! made you appreciate how good the dancers where when you had tried it yourself!!
on the 8th we went to see River v`s Olympu, in the river stadium it was the last match of the league, kinda like the premiere league at home. the stadium held 86000 people, the atmosphere was brilliant, the crowd songs were like proper songs, very musical, and they were allowed fineworks and flares in the middle of the crown, the fans were also allowed to climb up the fencing and hang off the barbed wire fence. River then won the league so the celebration were ace, we´ll put photos up when we get hooked to facebook.
we had dinner then with people from auz we met at the game and we got a lovely sirloin steak for 16 pesos, which is like 2.30 GBP.!!
Yesterday we went to see Eva Perones grave (Evita) the graveyard is massive and the graves are like proper marble houses, but you can see the coffins through the door and there are really deep basements in them where they store all the rest of the family, quite strange seeing the coffin. there was a sunday market on too, but seeing as its the first week we didnt want to make our backpacks any heavier!!
we moved into the dorms and ended up sharing with 2 men from san francisco, 1 from el salvador and 1 from Switzerland, they were really good fun and we went out then and had a good nights craic.
we head to Mendoza today for the vineyards for two nights.
the hostel we staying in here was the hostel suites obilisque, it was really good, clean, central and the staff were really helpful!
