We took the Ferry down to the Island...took around 25mins, but had the most nonchalant safety demo ever...had the Scissor Sisters playing in the background, while he was giving us life-saving instructions...The Island itself was so beautiful...basically there are no people living there, just essential staff and no cars...just tourists on bikes...there were some amazing views and loads of deserted beaches...we decided to take a walking tour to Oliver's Hill lookout to get a bit of culture and history of the island...Patrick our tour guide did a sterling job, we then hired some bikes...i promptly named mine 'Mutya' to carry on the girlband theme, in honour of my beautiful Peugeout 205, Su'elise...then headed over to Geordie bay...where i had my first attempt at Snorkelling...didnt see any fish, but was pretty cool for a first time...
The next day was pretty eventful for the wrong reasons...we decided to head down to Wadjemup Lighthouse...but i managed to drop my camera along the way...a frantic retracing of step ensued...but couldnt find it anywhere...so gave in some details and tried to salvage the rest of the day...went over to Salmon Bay and took a romantic walk down the beach (on my own...ahhhh) was gonna ask Ed, but feared rejection...decided to head back to the settlement after writing a huge T.H sign in the sand...yes!!!...went back to the Vistitors Centre, to find that someone handed in my camera...it restored my faith in humanity, but also highlighted my idiocy...celebrated by going to take pictures of some Quokka's...little furry creatures, that lend their name to the island, cos they looked like overgrown rats...but they were kinda cute...i named a Quokka joey, Zoe after the woman that found my camera...by this time the sun was beginning to set, so watched an awesome Sunset over the lake...
We were heading back to Fremantle the next day, so we rode to Oliver's Hill Battery, where there was a strategically placed Gun, to protect Perth during WWII...we were given an impromptu private tour by Keith, one of the volunteer guides, as we didnt have time for the full tour...the gun itself was never fired in anger...but u wouldve thought it single handedly demolished the Nazi's, such was Keith's enthusiasm...what a legend...!!! Then with a tear in my eye, I said goodbye to Mutya, before we had the 1st Anglo-Asian Mini-Golf tournament...Mini-golf is a great leveler, as Ed is a regular golfer and im not...but it was a tense affair right the way through...but the class finally told as Ed won with 4 shots to spare...though i did get a hole in one...yes!!!
