Checked out early on fri...loaded our backpacks and headed to Fremantle, which is about 45mins south of Perth by train...the hostel had a similar feel to Perth...but definately had less groups, so people were far more friendly...Fremantle itself is a lot smaller then Perth, but seemed to have more people about...but think thats because it was the weekend...there is a whole line of cafe's with people dining Al fresco...very classy...we went round the Fremantle markets and the Roundhouse Gaol and then lounged around in the sun for a bit...around 6ish...we took a tourchlight tour around Fremantle prison...took just under 2hrs...but it flew past...Lewis, our tour guide had sooo many amazing stories about prison life...all the history and the fact that it didnt change at all in its 100yr histroy...not as glamourous as Prison Break...!!! As it was a torchlight show, they pulled a few stunts to scare us...was quality. Was one of my highlights since ive been in Aus.
Managed to crowbar in a bit of culture by going to the Maritime Museum yesterday...wasnt the most exciting thing ever...but it killed a few hours and kept us off the streets..though we stumbled apon a gem when we left...the 'Blessing of the Fleet' parade...seemed like the whole town was out, and a few coffin dodgers marching proudly...was excellent...headed back to the hostel where this guy was playing live music...incorporating an acoustic guitar, a harmonica and a didgerydoo...excellent...he did a pretty cool version of 'no woman, no cry' unfortunately without the didgerydoo...thinking about buying his album called 'the Recipe'...!
Today had a little look around Freemantle F.C's ground...then headed to the Quayside, to take a tour around a Submarine...another cool tour...conditions were pretty cramped...very claustrophobic...the tour wasnt as good as the Fremantle Prison, but bless him Richard our tour guide tried his best...so we left the message...'Richard, the tour was SUBlime...' what a pun...!!! very proud of myself...We then randomly met up with Raj one of the guys we met in Perth...so we played a few games of pool and chilled in the Hostel
