Day 9 - A lazy day! After another sleepless night due to the temperature in the bungalow, we stayed at the lodge all day only venturing down to the restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner and an afternoon drink to watch the sun go down. We had breakfast again out on the balcony and then retired to the lodge to read and chill out. Lunch was served in the restaurant itself which was nice as it would have been impossible to be outside. Today was most definitely the hottest day either of have ever experienced, maybe touching 40 degrees C!
One thing, or a couple of things we did discover today was that we weren't alone in our bungalow, there were a couple of frogs housing themselves in the toilet cistern! This was very off putting when going to the toilet as they kept on coming out a perching themselves on the ledge above the toilet. No water for. Couple of hours either as they hadn't pumped any in for the day, hopefully not direct from the Mekong! We think we saw a filtration building.
At about 16:30 we went to go and watch the sun go down and got chatting to the German guy who had returned from their kayaking trip. Seem theirs was much more adventurous than ours as they stayed out for 7 hours and chilled in hammocks for lunch out on one of the dunes.
After falling asleep on our own balcony after lunch it was time for dinner and again we were out on the table over the river. The German couple joined us and we had a good chat about Angkor Wat as they had already been so gave us some handy tips. A bit of lighting could be seen in the distance so we didn't know whether we were in for a storm.
All in all a chilled out day and hopefully we get some sleep tonight. Tomorrow we are off to Kratie, one to break up the journey to Phonm Penh and one to see the Irrawaddy dolphins that live in the Mekong 15km north of Kratie.
