Hi All
So you have a couple of a weeks of updates to get through and I am going to start of with a very rainy trip to Boracay.
Right, so anyone outside of Manila would here "Boracay" they would wonder where this place was, but anyone who knows about the Philippines, say this is the best Island to go to in the Philippines which the whitest sand and a great party life! So you can imagine my excitement of having booked this a few months ago to finally be making the trip. So the trip was booked for the 17th June and I even booked the afternoon off work for the occasion.
The trip was with some of my work colleagues/friends, James (Colby), his girlfriend Sarah and another girl from work Kristina. We were all looking forward to some sun, sea, sand and drinking and were made up when the friday we were due to leave the weather in Manila was absolutely fantastic. What we had failed to understand was that there was actually a typhoon heading right for the Philippines.
All was looking well, we even got to the airport for an earlier flight (which was actually delayed). The plane was a small propellar job which was a bit scary, which flew us to caticlan. There is actually no airport on Boracay itself as it is a very small and long Island. Once we got to the airport I was amazed the the technology of the baggage reclaim... "Mam can you identify your bag". Awesome!
We then had to get a boat followed a van to get to the place we were staying at. Eventually we arrived at Dave's Straw Hut Inn. This is located in station 3 of the Island (there are 3 stations), and was a pleasant place to stay, very cheap. Though it was quite a walk from the action.
Friday night involved some drinks and dancing and a Pina Colada or 2 :). Unfortunately, thats when the rain started... we got absolutely soaked on the trek back to out place. After a good nights sleep, we had high hopes the weather would pick up, and after a lovely breakfast headed for the beach.
10 minutes later it was raining....
So a massage was the next option, and it was one of the best massages I have had in the Philippines, I am please to say. The rain eventually stopped and we went for a stroll along the beautiful white sands. I would recommend Boracary to you all and go so far as to say its worth coming to the Philippines for it, I have never been to a beach like it. Also people who have been to both Thailand and Boracay say the beach in Boracay is much better.
We had managed to walk to the other side of the Island when it started raining.... again. haha but we did find a Starbucks to take shelter in. Our weekend was a complete washout, but I don't regret going. You can't predict the weather, and I do now have a story to tell.
Well as you can imagine, the flight back was cancelled so that involved a transfer to another airport and another plane but we got home eventually. Also we found that Manila was raining too so we didn't feel so bad!
Anyways read the next blog which will tell a much different story, about Cebu..
Over and out my friends xx
