Late yesterday afternoon we finally arrived in San Francisco after our flight was delayed two hours and we had a stressfull airport experience! But nether the less, as we were driving to the hotel I was so blown away by the simplicity and beauty of this city. The houses and towns are so unique and beautiful. Its a place I can imagine would be amazing to live in. I feel like im in a european town like paris or amsterdam when im walking through the streets. Its so picture perfect.
As we hadnt eaten all day and it was 4.30pm, we got to the hotel and were all starving and wanted a good meal. As soon as I waked out the hotel I saw an 'In n Out' burgers sign on the building across the street. Yep, nothing could be more perfect in that moment. I had been waiting for that moment since the day I arrived in USA (and months before) and I couldnt wait to try it. I was so hungry which increased its deliciousness and it was by far the best burger and fries ive ever had. (I am glad we dont have it in aus though, 700 calories is a little too much for one meal...no regrets though!) After dinner we headed down to the wharf for a walk to see if we could spot the golden gate bridge and we did! Just as the sun was setting and the seals were 'calling??' (arrrr arrr) and we spotted the bridge in the near distance. That was a great moment. The three of us just stood there admiring its beauty. I actually glanced across at nana and popa and thought 'I am the luckiest grandaughter in the world'. There's definitely moments in life you never forget and that was one of them. That moment was everything.
On the way back we stopped for ice cream at the best ice cream place ive ever been too. I had Cake batter flavoured ice cream mixed with choc chip cookie dough...oh yes, it was as even better than it sounds. As much as I would have loved to stay out and explore the streets, I was so tired and ready for bed.
This morning we woke up fairly early with the intentions of riding across the Golden Gate bridge as it was something nanna has talked about doing for a long time. So as soon as we hopped up, we went down and hired bikes. The ride was so beautiful. Once again, the houses reminded me of a cute little town I would expect to find in paris and there was lots to see even before we got to the bridge. When we did get to the bridge, it was perfect. Absolutely perfect. We rode across it stopping a few times for photos as the views were so surreal. At one stage, we were riding through fog that had rolled in out of no where. I felt like i was above the clouds. It was a fantastic ride and an experience ill never forget.
We didnt do much for the rest of the day, but we did head down for a 'stroll' on pier 39. I saw the cuttest seals and even the walk itself was beautiful (as most things seem to be in this city). Poppa tried the famous 'Clam Chowder' but honestly we didnt really see what all the fuss is about. As for me, i was back down to that amazing ice cream place for dinner. (This time i decided to half oreo ice cream mixed with white chocolate chips + Sweet cream icecream with choc chip cookie dough. I think ive had enough ice cream to last the rest of my life, but in saying that i will probably go back and get more tomorrow)
It was a really nice day and i am loving san francisco. But right now the best thing sounds like sleep despite it only being 9pm. I think the tiredness & jet lag is finally catching up to me. Good night!
