Day 3 : Sunday
On Sunday morning, we had to wake up early for 10:00 am checkout. Luckily, the hostel let us keep our luggage behind the counter and we were able to fit in some more exploring.
Annecy has an open market on Sunday morning in the vieille ville, so we went to check it out. There was a lot of clothes and hats and scarves. And another section that was all fresh produce, meat and cheese. I picked up some vin chaud as the morning was rather cold. I needed a snack for the train, so I bought a fresh croissant from a nice old man who gave me two for the price of one. (So I have breakfast for tomorrow too!)
After walking around the market, we had some brunch. I had bacon and eggs and a café-crème. After the market closed (around 12:30) there wasn't much to do. Like any small French town, mostly everything is closed on Sundays.
After having some local cheese, called reblochon, and a fresh baguette for lunch, we met up with some local guys that the girls had met downtown the previous night. They took us on a tour around the lake and told us about some festivals that happen in the summer. It sounds like it's quite the bustling place in the summertime.
Sadly, at 4:00, it was time to head back to the train station and return to Grenoble. We were able to get a return train direct from Annecy to Grenoble, which was much more comfortable than the bus on the way here.
Overall a great trip! I would love to go back when the weather starts to warm up! In two weeks, during my school break I will be going on a tour with Venice as one of the stops. I'll let you all know how Annecy compares with the real deal!
