Hello everyone,
Sonja and I are in Serbia (but not Montenegro). Apologies for the incorrect mapping of our location, but Google Maps isn't the fastest thing to load. We had a good time in Slovenia with Sonja's mum's cousin and her family. We had a house to stay in! And we also went on a day trip with the family to Lake Bled which was so beautiful, especially because it was actually sunny. That seems to be a relatively rare thing in Eastern Europe at this time of year. The photos will go up on Facebook eventually and you will all sigh as you look at them.
Sonja and I also did a day trip to Ljubljana which wasn't all that exciting because it is a small city compared to many others we've been to. Something to do anyway. We also played lots of games with Stela (the younger daughter), including a bucking camel one which was very scary for Sonja, in particular.
We had the loooongest train trip from Race (near Maribor in Slovenia) to Zagreb and finally to Belgrade and then Sonja's grandparents picked us up for the hour drive to Topola, where they live. I speak very little Srpski, but I've picked up a bit. Govorim Srpski dobro! This is correct grammar, as verified by Sonja, and I did it all by myself.
So, yes, also some border control issues. Apparently stayed too long in the Schengen Area so I will hopefully be able to get into and out of Athens without a $1000AUD fine. At least I haven't emptied my bank account on this trip. Europe was cheaper than we expected.
I will be home in only a few days; very sad that it's almost over. It will be very strange, I think. There may be another blog post before I get back, but maybe not. We will see how interesting Athens is.
Cao!
