Beijing Day 2
Today was a very special day for one particular reason... Sven PROPOSED!!! I still can't stop smiling hee hee.
We had started the day off with walking through Tianamen Square and then onto the Forbidden City, then ancient palaces of China's many Emperors. Such a HUGE complex it can take a few days if you want to take in every detail! Very impressive with all the palaces and the old Emperors thrones etc!
Anyway after 4 hours walking around in subzero temperatures and getting windburn and feeling rather hungry, I naturally started to get just a bit grumpy and asked Sven very nicely if we could go and get some food. I was amazed he wasn't hungry as he is normally the first one to think of his stomach! So Sven promised me we would go a bit later..
Anyway long story cut short, we got to the main section where there is special walkway where only the Emperors used to walk and Sven was loitering and taking his sweet time whilst my stomach continued to grumble away! I grumbled once more to Sven saying I was very hungry and he said to me ' Dont worry I will make it up to you' and the next thing I knew he was on one knee on the Emperors walkway asking me to marry him!! My reaction was a mixed one, first i started nervously laughing then crying then shaking haa haa what a nutter! and of course I said Yes!!
The thing that rounded it off was the massive Aussie tourgroup who had seen the whole thing standing on the one side of us and they all started cheering! the one women ran up to us and took our picture (still to be posted!) then madly enough one of the local Chinese tourists ran up to us and made her husband take a picture of the 3 of us - how very random! but then in China we have discovered loads of random things!
In the evening we went to check out a local food market, mmmh yuuummy NOT! amongst the local food on offer, were starfish, snakes, scorpions, worms you name it! interesting to see but definately no tasting involved!!
We ended the day off with a nice meal of Peking Duck Beijing style at a restaurant around the corner from us.
Thanks to all of you for the great messages and sharing in our excitment!!
Beijing Day 3
Lazy day today. After a long sleep in (body clocks still sorting themselves out and think they are still on UK time!) we headed on the local underground to the Summer Palace. Simply gorgeous park with pagodas overlooking a beautiful lake and home to the Emperors during the Summer. We walked around that and then headed back and continued to be lazy!
Tomorrow early morning off to the Great Wall, so will sign off for now and write all about that tomorrow!
P.S still havent posted any pics will do so a the end of the week before heading to Thailand
