Beijing Day one!

We have arrived in China!!

It is now 2am local time and ding ding ding we are wide awake!! SOoo I decided why not write our first blog!

After a 9 hour flight from London to Beijing and no sleep for either of us, we landed in Beijing and got a taxi to our hostel in the back alleys of Beijing known as the 'Hutongs' which are the old markets.

Rather interesting taxi ride as the taxi navigated up this very small alley and dropped us outside a rather dodgy looking hostel (which was fine once entering phew!)

We dumped our bags and made our way into the markets to check out a bit of Beijing culture!

They have loads of'sweet' shops so Sven decided we should each buy something that we couldnt tell what it was and try some of the local sweets! So my 'yummy' looking sweet turned out to taste like a dog treat and so did Svens'...

Walking along we got a few 'spot the tourist' looks and at one point 2 women who could speak English stopped us and told me I had lovely blue eyes (she was wearing blue contacts) and that Svens facial hair (beard under his lip) looked ehem very attractive! she then asked Sven what his hair looked like (he was wearing a cap) and looked rather suprised when he removed it that he didnt have any! LOL!!

we also saw numerous interesting snacks like pickled chicken feet and other things which we couldn't and didn't really want to make out what the hell they were! See all you Non Saffas, there are worse things than Biltong!

being minus 2 outside and a tad tired we decided to head back to our hostel (with private room thank God!) and ordered some food, with Chinese karaoke playing in the background and then went to sleep at 6pm, and hence we are now both awake!!

Tomorrow we are heading to the Forbidden City and Tiananmen square to see the soldiers marching and lowering the flag at dusk!

Believe it or not I have not taken a single photo yet but will be clicking away tomorrow!

Oh AND Facebook is blocked in China aaarrrghhh! So I won't be on that until Thailand
