I'm writing this blog from the top of a sand dune overlooking the town of haucachina at sunset. This place is beautiful! It's an oasis in the desert surrounded by sand dunes. There isn't much here, just a few hotels and restaurants and lots of companies offering sand boarding and dune buggies. We had 2 nights here, got the bus from paracas here. Staying at a place called carola del sur, it's a pretty nice place. Basic rooms but a nice swimming pool and heaps of random friendly animals walking around, including a sheep, tortoise and rabbits! We had a walk around town and booked a dune buggy ride for 4-6. The company was pretty average that we booked with, started 20 mins late and no extra time at the end for that! Should have just gone with the hotel!
Did have a fantastic time tho, the drivers are fricken insane u go up and down and sideways on the steepest dunes, so much fun but so scary!!! Like a roller coaster ride and far more crazy than anything we have aver done before in a 4x4!!! Also got to go sand boarding, I was useless at standing up but Chris was ok on small dunes! The best was going down on ur belly on massive steep dunes- great except for one with bumps at the end!! Had a blast and highly recommend it!
Today we just lazed around and then did a walk up the biggest dune in town. Was a spectacular view but hard work!! Fun running down it tho at the end! We are now at the top of another dune watching the sunset. We hired a sandboard so having fun taking turns on it- Chris is doing more than me, I can't be bothered with the steep walk back up! Tomorrow we are off to nazca where we are doing a flight on a tiny plane over the nazca lines (random drawings in the earth from thousands of years ago, no one really knows what they are there for!) then getting an overnight bus to Arequipa. Wish me luck for the flight think my motion sickness will cop it!!!!
