We had an early breakfast then took a short walk down to the river. The group slpit into 2 groups (Chelsea, Brad, Zach, Vicki, maddie and our leader Praveen) and took an hour or so sailing down the river in a tiny canoe. We also toppled out several times! We spotted a few crocsodiles and birds before we reached the jungle. We walked roughly 15KM throughtout the day, most of which was in 3M high grass (Chelsea has the cuts to prove it!) Our group was by far the luckiest, we saw 2 elephants, wild pigs, monkeys, deer amd thousands of multi-coloured butterflies. Our leader Kamal took us through lots of dense jungle in the hope of spotting rhino but with no luck. By 6pm we had reached our Hotel 'Ghumti river' which was nice but very basic. 2 in a room which had mosquito net covered beds. We had to share one shower and to Chelseas horror a squat toilet! (she still isn't used to these yet!) Dinner was served at 7:30 and we shared a few beers in the moonlight. Hardly anyone managed a decent sleep even after all that walking!!
A loud bang on the door woke us at 5 wedsnesday morning so we dressed then had a quick breakfast. The whole group made an hours walk to the crocodile breeding centre (one of three worldwide) They had crocs of all different sizes which they release into the wild if they are strong enough. They also had a tiger which was caught by a women in the village when it was a cub, its mother attacked and killed several people which is why they cannot release it back to the wild. Once a tiger has tastes a human, it becomes a maneater and no longer hunts for food in the jungle. We then took another 30min walk to the 2 jeeps which would take us back to our Hotel (Royal Park). It was about an hour or so through the small villages where all the children run to the roadside and wave and shout hello and goodbye! We dropped our bags at the hotel then walked down to the river to wash elephants! It only cost about $2 each and we got to sit on their backs whilst they sprayed us with water form their trunks. Myself, Vicki and Isabelle were on one elephant which decided to throw us into the water from full height! We had the time of our lives and it was asuch an amazing experience. We even used big stones on their backs to give them a good scrub! Our elephant then rolled over so we could wash the otherside!
