So this is our last night in KL, heading south to Melaka tomorrow. After some investigation yesterday we now know where we can catch the bus. This isn't at a bus station like you may think, but just at the side of a random road. The buses congregate on different streets and this is pretty much the station.
Our impressions of KL are stinky, minky, dirty, dull and most people are rude! We've came across cockroaches and rats, dead and alive. These points aside we have came across a nice area, that was clean and fun. Saying that it'd be more fun if you were on a millionaires budget rather than a backpackers.
Our first day here consisted of finding the nearest LRT station (underground) and heading to Times Square, one of the many shopping centres. It has 12 floors, huge! Inside the mall there are two cinemas and a theme park that even has a looping rollercoaster between the 5th and 7th floor. Pretty cool. It's just a shame there are 12 floors and literally no good shops. Even if we wanted to we couldn't have bought a thing. Next stop was having a nosey around China Town. We were expecting lots of Chinese people, nope none here, just lots of Indians and Malaysians! The main street in China Town is basically a market selling everything fake and offering some dodgy looking food from dirty side street restaurants and carts. One cart did have hot chesnuts so Dean wsa a happy man! On our way to our next stop, Central Market, I saw the biggest, ugliest cockroach roaming about outside one of the 'restaurants', yuck! Central Market was a cool place, selling genuine Malaysian arts and crafts type things. We came here later on for our tea, some Pad Thai and Thai Green Curry, this cost about 1.50 each! Night time took us to Kampung Baru night market. Considering this market only takes place every Saturday night we were expecting something quite good. Again we were let down by KL! We walked around it in about 20 mins. In this 20 mins we saw a huge dead rat and a live one practically ran over Dean's feet. Nice!
Day 2 we got up at 7am to secure our ticket to climb the Petronas Towers. Arrived there at 8:30am to be told that all the tickets for that day had been given out. What time do they expect you to get there?! 1400 people must have been up very early! We jumped in a taxi and drove to the Golden Triange area. This is the upmarket part of KL, lots of shopping centres, restaurants, nice bars etc. Oh and it's clean and doesn't smell! We stumbled across a Ferrari gathering outside the Pavillion Shopping centre. Which turned out to be Asia's biggest ever Ferrari owners club gathering. It was an amazing site to see 144 Ferrari's all in one small space. The noise was mental! We had some brunch with a wine and beer, the most civillised we've felt since we were in Raffles in Singapore!
Today we caught the bus to the Batu Caves, a Hindu shrine set in caves at the top of 272 steps. The bus took about 45 mins to get there, we spent less time that this in the caves! It was pretty cool to see but didn't take you long to look around. Considering an American found the caves we think they have a bit of a cheek claiming the caves and the fame for themselves! They are no more Hindu caves than they are Scottish caves!
We have spotted two monks since we've been here, one at the airport, and one today around the corner from our hotel. All shaved heads and orange body turbans This has made my day!
We're now back in our little box room deciding what to do tonight. One things for sure we're not feeling too sad about leaving KL!
Lots of love
