Last night I couldn't brave the cold winds up on deck so ended up going back down to my bunk. But I still did fall asleep under the stars, if only for an hour!
We were woken up nice and early by the sound of 1 Direction blasting through speakers. Not a great way to begin the day, but I was up.
After a filling breakfast we kitted up and got in the water to do some snorkelling on the reef of the island we were parked up by. We had to wear a very attractive looking sting suit to protect us from the jelly fish. Thankfully the most of the time we had them on we were underwater, they were very revealing.
Snorkelling was great! It took a bit of getting used to, but got to see all sorts of fish! Big, small, bright and brilliant! Not only were the fish amazing, but the reef it's self was so diverse! My first snorkelling trip was cut short by hiccups. Probably the worst place to ever get hiccups. I wasn't too bummed though because the sun wasn't fully up yet so it was a bit chilly.
We then got back on the boat, had lunch and sailed to another location about an hour away. This one had a big beach on it, so instead of getting out of the boat into the sea we got a boat to the beach, chilled out, and hopped in from there. This session I really enjoyed as it wasn't as busy with people and I had a huge area all to myself. I was just swimming through schools of fish at almost touching point! Was quite incredible! After a short while I came back onto the beach and as everyone else joined me they told me how they had seen 3 turtles! Was really disappointed I didn't get to see them, but as we were about to leave someone spotted 2 close to shore. I ran up the beach, grabbed my snorkel and mask and sprinted in after them! Unfortunately they were gone by the time I got back, I went in looking but they could have been anywhere. Shame not to be in the water with them, but looking back now, those 2 seconds watching them from the shore was still incredible.
Plus going into the sea twice meant I could practice my Daniel Craig a few more times.
Back on the boat we sailed back to Airlie Beach and the skipper really showed us what the boat could do. We were at a 50 degree angle! It was really impressive. The only downside of the whole trip for me was that being on a boat you really can't escape the sun! I tried my best and put on loads of sun cream but I have a feeling I didn't do enough. We will see tomorrow!
Back in Airlie Beach I got back to my hostel, had a nice shower to get the salt of me and headed out for a drink with everyone. It was nice to say bye but unfortunately the last couple of days I've had a bit of a throat infection and by this time had lost my voice! It's bad enough being in a bar and having to shout everything you say, but when you have no voice and are coughing all the time it's just no fun. So had a meal, few beers and a game of pool before leaving. Never know, I might see them again! It's happened before now!
