Week 14- Indonesia (Gili T) Day 2
Today we had planned to hire bikes and cycle around the whole island but we decided to wait until the sun had gone down a bit in the afternoon. So we spent that morning on the beach! It was our last day on the beach so we went into intense sunbathing mode! The sea was a little more chilled today and a lovely way to cool down. We went for lunch where we had dinner last night as it was nice and cheap and always busy! Gem had a baguette and I had fried rice.. Filled us right up ready for the cycling!
We quickly popped back to the hostel to get rid of some of our stuff then went to the main road to find somewhere renting a tandum. Well this was an experience.. They may look easy but tell you what are so difficult. We must have looked hilarious to the people walking past. We were both crying in laughter, we just couldn't balance. So after 5 minutes of getting nowhere we decided to go back and ask for 2 separate bikes! The ride was really pretty, although, there isn't much at all the other side of the island apart from fancy wedding type hotels and sunset bars. The ride took us about an hour in half in total but at points we had to get off and push them through the thick sand. The island isn't big at all.. Even though we did get a little bit lost at the beginning and ended up in a place which looked like where all the locals lived with lots of animals all over the place.
By the end if our cycle our bums were in agony, we couldn't wait to get off we could hardly walk! So we were pleased to see the bike hire shop. We then headed back to our hostel and both Facetimed home for a while. In the evening we went to the market again and ate the same place we did on the first night. We both had a range of meat and seafood skewers and sides which yet again didn't disappoint! We tried a few more traditional cakes from the market (and incredible banana cake) and headed back to our hostel!
