Week 2- Goa- Day 1
Today we woke up at 7am to get ready for our flight. Our original flight had been cancelled so we had been out on an early flight which was actually better because it meant we could hit the beach sooner! We had prearranged our transfer to the airport and had a crazy driver trying to have full on conversations with us yet he spoke very little English it was very entertaining! He had also attached our rack sakes to the top of his car roof with just a bit of string. We were so worried they wouldn't make it to the airport especially with his crazy driving.
We got to the airport really early and it all ran smoothly. I managed to purchase a costa coffee hot chocolate which made me really happy! Our flight landed 30minutes early which was handy. We were off the plane and into a cab all within about 10 minutes! It was a tiny airport! The cab took about an hour and a half to get to our hostel in Vagator. Although it would probably have only taken about 45 minutes but our driver didn't have a clue where he was going!
Jungle Hostel is amazing and we would definitely recommend it to other people. It has a large communal area with big cushions and also hammocks outside. There is a communal area which breakfast is provided from in the morning and plenty of cups of tea so Gemma is very happy. We have a private double room which is in a little block down the road which is also very nice. Our room has air conditioning and is slightly like a tornado when on full haha. We have met a fair few people at this hostel and it is good to all exchange plans and recommendations. There are two lads in the room below us who we have spoken to quite a lot.
We decided to adventure down to the beach although we didn't ask anyone for directions so for all we knew we could have been walking in the completely wrong direction! After about 15/20 minutes walking in the boiling heat we finally found the beautiful beach! It is amazing, there are lots of hotels and restaurants within the cliff top which over look the beach. We decided to have a snack in one of the beach shacks, we couldn't believe how cheap it was! We had two litres of water, a fresh juice, prawns and pitta and homous for a grand total of £2.50! We sat and relaxed by the beach before we started what felt like a marathon back to the hostel (we found out later on in the evening there is a lot shorter route to the beach).
We went for dinner in a restaurant across the road from our hostel then headed back to the communal area to chill out and skype home. We can already tell we are going to love Goa!
