Today was mostly another insurance write off... pun intended. We spent all morning on the phone trying to get approval so I could see a US doctor for an x ray. Rob fortunately did all the calling, it was so painful, and when we left they still didn't have an answer for us on when we could see someone.
Anyway, we eventually headed out and went for a famous Chicago style pizza for lunch, complete with thick pie style crust. I quite liked it, although I do prefer the original Italian! We then headed over to the Magnificent Mile, a long road of shops and beautiful skyscrapers to see the sights of downtown Chicago. We really liked it, and just spent some time milling around the streets and shops.
Later, we had arranged to meet with Joan and Ross' friend Nancy from Chicago, at the Langham, a gorgeous hotel in the centre. The view from the top was amazing, looking over at the jewellers building which according to urban legend hosted a gangster speakeasy during prohibition. The staff were lovely and even gave us some typical chicago popcorn - cheese and caramel in one bag (and soooo nice). Nancy took us to a nice bar for a drink. She was really funny and helpful, and we arranged to meet for dinner on Wednesday when she'd have more time.
After that, we headed over to the John Hancock building for drinks at the bar on the 93rd floor. It had gorgeous cocktails to go with the amazing views, one of the best being in the ladies' toilets!
We weren't particularly hungry, so when we went down we shared a slice of cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory downstairs! You can see why it's easy for Americans to put on weight - one slice of one of the flavours had 1800 calories!!! They really should stop printing them on the menu.
