We did our first days work yesterday, picking grapes. It was the hardest days work we have ever done. We got up at 5:30 and worked from 7am until 2pm without a break. It was so hot and the grapes were so tricky to pick. There were some people going round picking the biggest bunches and so the rest of us had to go back over the vines they had done and get all the small bunches off. We were paid by the bucket so it was hard to fill buckets when all the big bunches had already gone. I had a redback spider about 1cm from my hand at one point and only just saw it in time. We decided that 1 day was enough but we have stupidly just signed up for a few more days next week. The money is rubbish as well. I think that we will both come out with about $100 each (about 45 quid) for the 1 day we did. We will get quicker though.
If we get work for a few weeks here we are going to look for an apartment because we are in the tent at the moment. Its horrible coming back from work at 2 in the afternoon, being knackered and not being able to go in the tent because its too hot.
The picture is of the Kookaburra that nicked my kangaroo steak a couple of nights ago. It flew at me while I was eating my tea and took the steak off my palte and then sat and ate it in front of me.
