At the moment we're trying to book flights to Cambodia, Siem Reap then fly from there back to Bangkok. whoever said flying within SE Asia is cheap needs their heads checking. Its going to cost us 300 pounds then $45 for the Cambodia visa. the bus is going to take 38 hours and the roads are very bad as i've mentioned before so not sure what to do. We're not allowed back into Thailand until 23rd Nov due to only being allowed a 30 day visa so our only option to to try to extend our thai visa or get the bus to Cambodia. Still don't know what the best thing to do is. Will keep u posted!
Our accommodation in Lao ended up being a right nightmare, it was freezing cold so i had to sleep in a t shirt, hoodie, tracksuut bottoms, socks, in my duvet cover with the a towel over me for extra warmth! the toilet didn't flush, the toilet door wouldnt close and there was construction outside our room that started at 7am. i woke up yesterday to mel trying the toilet door, it was locked but there was no one in side the toilet! she had a bad stomach and desperately needed it, poor thing! no idea how it happended, we thought the room might have been haunted! after 4 nights we checked out and have moved to a nicer place. briana was sick and we had no hot water, so the mixture of no sleep from the construction the freezing cold room and no hot water was most likely making her worse.
We have looked around a beautiful temple called Wat Xieng Thong which is from the 16th century. we realised that we didn't really know what we were looking at and there 4 older woman who had a guide so we were kinda hovering around them ear wigging to what he was explaining! ha. but anyway we got speaking to them and they invited us to follow them, there were 3 sisters and 1 friend who were all born in cuba but lived in all different areas of the world, madrid, rome cuba and london. they met up once a year to go travelling together. we called them the golden girls like off the TV show!
they paid for a guide when they booked up in london for their whole stay in Lao. That sounded a good idea but no affordable to us poor backpackers!
He was explaining that he used to be a Monk for 3 years. Buddist boys must become a monk for 3 months whilest growing up from the age of 7 years onwards. they again must become a monk when their mothers dies and their father dies.
The guide was also saying that his gran father was a General for the Lao army and was killed by the Americans during the Vietnam war. More bombs were dropped on Lao than Vietnam by the americans. Crazy.
Lao is so different to Thailand is un real. We feel so much more safer here and its much more cleaner. with pink bricks on all the walkways instead of pavements and plants down the streets. The food is nicer. We have found a gorgeous little cafe called Jomas that serves tea and nice cakes.
Anyway will post again soon xx
