We got the bus from Vang Vieng at 10 am. We were initially told it was a VIP bus and the journey would take 8 hours. The roads in Lao are really bad, mostly dirt tracks with pot holes and cracks all around. About 2 hours into the journey we were travelling up into the moutains which was a really steep back and we could feel the bus was loosing power. then it cut out. it was scorching hot and the air con stopped, we all had to get off the bus and stand at the side of the road. It turned out the petrol cable had snapped as the bus was that old and battered. it has probably never seen a service in the hole of its life. The managed to fill the tank with petrol from a canister. so we all got on the away we went about 5 meters down the road it cut out again, and they had to fill it up with petrol again. but the bank we could see that half the road had caved in and fell down the cliffe. the road was atill open vehicles to drive over and the only warning was a orange cone. We were all a little anxious when tehy got the bus running again about driving over this area of road as it was so dangerous. but we all got back on and away we went again. just as we squeezed through the peice of road that was left and had not caved in and eroded the bus broke down again and the next thing we know we're roling back with no engine on. our initally thought was that the breaks had failed and we were about to role off the end of cliff and all die. so we all got ready to dart down the aile of the bus ready to try and save our selves. the bus driver managed to role us to saftey but they never sent another bus. our phones said no network coverage so they probably wouldnt have been able to get help if they tried.

Anyway to cut along story short we managed to get there in the end at 10pm. There is a curfew in Lao so everything was closed. We hadn;t pre booked our accommodation so we were trailing around the streets with our backpacks trying to find somewhere to stay but they were all full! we found somewhere in the end though.
