Hello from Airlie Beach, Have been in Australia for about 2 weeks now making our way down the east coast. Just to make you all jealous the weather is absolutely amazing, think the average is about 27 C, love the fact that I have a tan in November! So we left Cairns, not a bad thing was not the greatest place I have ever been, and headed to Mission beach, the first day we walked down the length of the beach, really beautiful, and walked through a creek, all the locals were doing it so seemed fine, then we realised we had promised to meet the owner of the place we were staying as he was going to show us some wallabies. We had to walk pretty fast back and reached the creek now at high tide... Alex went straight through, Jill and I were a little hesitant. It was not until the next day that when being given directions to where Alex would land for his sky dive that we were told there was is a huge crocodile in that creek! OH MY GOD never going in a creek again!
Anyway still with feet Alex did a Sky dive on the beach, Jill and I have decided to save our sky dive for New Zealand. We sat and watched from the beach, the plane went up and up and two white specs then appeared (Alex and another girl) We were very excited, they were falling fast, there was only a slight panic from the two of us when what appeared to be a tiny piece of material came out of the back pack not a parachute... the main parachute evidently appears 10 seconds after... His DVD is brilliant will be getting one myself..! We didn't stay here long, there was not much else to do apart from tan on the beach, which was pretty cool.
We then moved on to the an island near Townsville, Magnetic Island, again really beautiful place. We saw lots here, went on a walk to the top of the island for some views but also to try and see some wild Koalas. We were so lucky and saw a mother and baby, they are very funny animals, don't do much it's like they have taken a huge amount of drugs... We also got to feed some kangaroos at sunset. There were also huge bats here which kept swooping down without warning, I did not like these at all! We met a few really cool people here and went to their monthly full moon party, but really not anything great to say about it compared to the parties in the Thai Islands this was really bad! I am sorry to say it but so far Australians have the worst dancing I have ever seen... one guy was dancing like a koala!
We are now in Airlie beach, and are about to head off on a sailing boat for a few days and nights to see the Whitsunday islands... I have heard so many good things about them I can't wait! Hoping however like Ximena I won't get sea sick! Airlie beach is a really cool place too, there has been a festival with lots of live music and parties so have had a great few days! We will be pretty busy over the next two weeks as we are going to do a 3 day Kayaking trip and camping over night near Noosa and then going to Fraiser Island, I can't wait to drive the 4 x4 and see some shooting stars!
Will update you on the sailing when I get back!
