After a 7hr journey to Luang Prabang with a moody moon bear (Vaugh) in tow we arrived at 4pm. On the way we stopped at a view point and had lunch. Once in Luang Prabang we wandered around the market and around the city. We had dinner at a restaurant called Lao Lao garden where Tom had a traditional Lao BBQ which ended in disaster when we persuaded him to fry an egg on it.
Its the 1st of June and we can´t believe how fast time is flying! We spent the morning shopping with a recovering Vaugh despite lots of trips and slips on weird slime. We all met at Joma at 1pm and then set off to the Kang si waterfalls and a visit to the sun bears. We ended up climbing up the waterfalls which was crazy but well worth it. It was beautiful and we saw monks bathing in the top of the falls. That evening we had dinner at a small place on the corner of a junction outside for the most amazing BBQed chicken. Had a big shop at the Night market and spent all my remaining money.
First thing next morning we stopped at Joma for supllies for the long boat ride to Pak Beng. On the ride we learnt a couple of new card games (slap the b**** and poker 2) on the way. We stopped at a small local village and met the local women who wove with silk and cotton and saw the most wonderful children. After a night spent in Pak Beng we set off early the next morning on our boat and crossed the border back into Thailand into Chiang Kong. Helen and I along with Vaugh went off to have a treatment. Helen had her feet sorted and I had a Thai massage which was an experience!
Up early again, to catch the bus to Chiang Mai and stopped at a temple between our Step up DVD marathon. Chilled out for a few hours and then took the night train back into Bangkok. Helen at this point had Conjunctivitis and was suffering on the train with the air con. Upon arrival we took a little trek to Ricky to have a full English breakfast with proper sausages etc and it was amazing! During breakfast my eyes started and within 4hrs I had conjunctivitis in both eyes so we were a bit of a mess. Took a little trip to the hospital, chilled for the rest of the day and then had a final group dinner.
