Hello all,
We made it to Thailand safe and sound and had a great long weekend in Bangkok. We stayed a minutes walk away from Khao San Road and threw ourselves into the action as soon as we got there. Oh yes, cocktail buckets in makeshift bars - gazebo's and plastic chairs, and in no time we got talking to other people from England and had a great night out. The hotel we stayed at had a swimming pool so it felt like more of a holiday which felt great after a month in China, although we felt that more than a few days in Bangkok would be a waste as it was a bit Brits abroad! It was a nice change, but not what we came to Thailand for, plus we'll be back there in December before flying to Australia.
We've moved north an hour now to Ayutthaya and spent today exploring the ruins of the ancient capital's temple. It was bloody roasting, at least 34 degrees, so we didn't see all of them but had a brilliant afternoon and took some good photo's. We are off to Phitsanulok tomorrow for a couple of nights then complete our staggered train journey to Chiang Mai in the north. After that it's on to Laos!
So another encounter with the Thai railway network awaits us tomorrow - delays, people walking along train tracks, and barbers cutting people's hair by the tracks!
Bye for now, take care
