The Full Moon Party was incredible!!! We danced and drank on the beach until the sun came up. There were skipping ropes of fire, loud music, slides, stages to dance on and lots and lots of UV body paint. It was amazing! I didn't bring my camera as I didn't trust myself not to loose it so Lauren took loads of photos, unfortunately her memory card was a dodgy fake from a chinese market and broke so we're not sure whether the pictures can be saved, fingers crossed!
During the day we got the boat over to Koh Tao, it's more beautiful than Koh Phangan but all there is to do there is diving, which with Lauren's knee obviously we can't. But we walked to a remote beach where there was only 8 other people and lay in the sun and swam in the clear sea (well I did). It was a little bit of paradise. The boat on the way back was so rocky that I thought I was going to throw up, people were literally being knocked everywhere and we all got soaked. Then after a trip to the hospital and some dinner we painted ourselves in UV paint (Lauren's really good at it so I looked good, my painting skills stretch from hearts, smiley faces or peace signs!) and put on our florescent attire and hit the bar then the beach for the party.
The next day was a write off, as we didn't get home until 7am we slept until the afternoon and then lay by the pool, went to the hospital and hit the beach again for a few more drinks. It was a quieter night than the full moon party but there were still lots of games and dancing. Josh (The German I worked with in Rainbow beach) left today which was sad but hopefully I'll take a little trip to Germany to see him again.
Yesterday we got the boat, then bus, then boat again to Koh Phi Phi which is one of the western islands. It's the one they filmed Leonardo Di Caprio's film The Beach at and is so stunning! We checked into our hotel called PongPan (and it's called Pong for a reason!), saying it's basic is putting it nicely. We thought we got an absolute bargain when the Tourism office in Bangkok booked all this stuff for us but with all the bad hostels I've stayed in so far I should have realised if something sounds too good to be true then it is! But oh well it's just somewhere to lay our heads, we've decided we just need to spend as little time in there as possible. This island is very coupley and it doesn't seem as easy to meet people as it did in Australia because there are no hostels so no room sharing. Last night we went out for cocktails, played some beer pong on a rooftop bar and ended up in an Irish bar with 100 newly qualified Irish doctors from Dublin Uni!!!
Today we woke up sweating, it's a completely different heat to Australia, it's hot and sticky, you sweat just doing nothing. I really feel for Lauren who can't even cool off in the sea. We lazed on the beach, had a nice meal and went to watch the sunset with a cocktail at a cool little bar where you sit in boats, although a big cloud obscured the sunset and a group of cats (the island is covered in them) decided to take over our table so we had to move. Tonight we might head back to the Irish bar as some of the doctors are playing in a band there and then hit the beach bars. We've booked a boat tour to see Monkey island (definitely not feeding them as the nurse told us 40 people have been bitten by them in the last two weeks, although I did pay for my rabies jab so probably should get my moneys worth!), Mosquito Island (may as well I couldn't possibly be bitten anymore than I have been), Pirate cove and the island from The Beach. We get to do more snorkelling as well which I loved in Australia so am excited for and we get back just after sunset :)
Still miss you all lots, having fun but looking forward to being home again. Although I'll probably have been told off by my family for talking non stop, loudly and quickly, from Heathrow home and want to be back here! Love you xxx
