So after two flights and 20 hours of travelling I arrived at Bangkok airport to be greeted by Lauren :) We got a taxi through the crowded streets and the change of culture was apparant already. After a quick shower and change in the hotel we hit Koh San Road to try the street food and buckets of alcohol. When they say the alcohol is strong they really mean it! Everything is so cheap and people come up to you every minute trying to sell you stuff, which you have to barter for. Lauren's the queen of bartering and I'm rubbish, just send a little child up to me selling stuff and I will buy anything.
The next day we got a Tuk Tuk around the city seeing temples, the floating markets and lots of buddhas. Then we went to the Transport place and they sorted us out with a night bus and boat down to Koh Phangan. The island is so beautiful, the waters so blue, it's covered in rainforests and the beaches are so white and clean. The day we arrived we headed to the beach which is amazing! I spent a few hours topping up my tan, Lauren spent a few hours going red! That evening I met Josh, a friend I worked with a Rainbow beach in Australia, it was so good to catch up. There was a massive pool party that night at Coral Bungalows where we're staying and we woke up today a bit worse for wear!
A group of us decided to rent mopeds and explore the island today, we heard of some beautiful waterfalls further up in the hills. As I'm sure you all know I don't drive so I went on the back of Lauren's one. It was really fun at first and a great way to see the island. We spotted along the way and fed elephants but didn't ride them as most of us are saving that for Chang Mai. Then we got to a part of the road that wasn't paved and was all stoney and dusty, it was pretty steep, I don't really know how it happened but all of a sudden we had fallen off and were on our side. I landed on top of Lauren so didn't even have a scratch on me luckily but Lauren's knee was bleeding really badly and when she got up the sight of the wound made me nearly pass out. She had to physically hold it together with her hand and her arm was missing a chunk of flesh as well. No one knew what to do but luckily a paramedic on a mopad came past at the time and a car with a Thai family in stopped to and helped out. He washed her cut and as we had nothing to make a bandage with so I used my top (don't worry I had a bikini on) and the Thai family drove her to the hospital. I had to go back to the hotel and get her passport so Josh drove me back and it was the scariest journey ever, I will NEVER get on one again! At the hotel they made a massive fuss about giving her passport back and kept asking things about the bike, I ended up crying with frustration because they were being so unhelpful and I could just imagine Lauren lying alone in a Thai hospital. In the end they gave it to me and I ran up to our room and grabbed as much money as I could find then got a taxi to the hospital. They had stitched up the cut on her arm but as she used her knee to get up off the floor it was infected so they couldn't stitch it up yet, they gave her a course of antibiotics and packed her cut with gauze and told her to come back everyday for the next three days, not to swim or drink. So basically the two main things you do on a party island like this. Then we got a taxi back to the hotel and I had to go in a car with some workers to show them where we left the moped. It was working so one of them drove it back and then they assessed the damage; 18,000 baht about 500 pounds! It seemed like for every little scratch they added on 1,000 and there was just no arguing with them. After we each had a teary phone call with our mums asking for money (sorry again mummy) we had dinner and showered. It's put such a downer on this trip, bad things just seem to happen a lot to me and I always seem to be messing up in one way or another. I was in half a mind to just change my flight and come home when Lauren leaves but I know I'll regret it. Tomorrow is another day and hopefully a better one, we're off to Koh Tao for a day trip but obviously can't go snorkelling or diving now and it's the Full Moon Party at night so it should be really fun :)
Please don't worry I'm ok just a little sad today and missing home xxx
