Unexpected visit to Graceland
After my visit to New Orleans the plan was to go to Dallas, where I wanted to feel the atmosphere around the Super Bowl, but the plans changed a bit. I did go to the Super Bowl, but before that I ended up going to Memphis and visited Elvis Presley's old house, Graceland.
Since I'm travelling around by myself and don't have a car, I need to take advantage of good opportunities, when they occur. That happened to me in New Orleans, where I met three fellow danes, who were travelling around the States in a rental car.
They were going by Dallas too, and I immediately asked if I could join them. Hopefully I could, and as they were going to Memphis for a few days first, it obviously meant that I was going with them to Memphis.
That was a nice surprise to my trip, though. Memphis is a nice little city, and in Beale Street me and my new travelpartners found a few very nice bars with live blues music. We even hooked up with some of the other guests we met in New Orleans, so we had a few very good nights out in the Memphis bars.
On top of that we visited Graceland and the music studio Sun Studio, where Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins have all recorded some of their hits.
Especially Graceland was a great experience. To watch how Elvis lived was pretty fascinating, and as well as his music might have been pre to his time, his way of living was too. Actually stepping into Graceland reminded me of most of the episodes of MTV Cribs.
He lived totally like the modern sports and rap stars though he lived in an around the 60's. He had a pool table room in the basement, lots of nice cars, a private airplane, golf cars and other fun vehicles to drive around in the garden with his friends. Furthermore he had a few rooms designed to him hanging out and jamming with his friends, and it really looked like a house you would dream to hang out in if you were living in the 60's.
Graceland is definitely worth a visit if you like Elvis Presley or not.
