Great fun in New Orleans
By coincidence I recently ended up in New Orleans. I met a Norwegian guy with a car, and as he was driving to New Orleans I decided to go with him and split the gas-bill.
It turned out to be the right decision, cause New Orleans was fantastic. We stayed in a hostel called AAE Bourbon House, and that was the perfect place to stay for us. A lot of the other guests in the hostel were there for the same reason as us (live music and beers), so around 15-20 of us went out together to explore the nightlife of New Orleans.
We were people from Denmark, Norway, England, Australia, USA, Switzerland and Brazil, and we had so much fun. Partly because of the company from the other hostel-guests, but mostly because of the great bars in New Orleans.
The most known street for partying in New Orleans is Bourbon Street, but we didn't really go there at night. Bourbon Street is the most touristed street and is packed with strip clubs, but in Frenchman Street just next to the French Quarter we found the real soul of New Orleans. Different size bars with rum, beers and fantastic live jazz.
Originally my plan is to return to New Orleans for the mardi Gras, but it really depends on what kind (and price) of accommodation I can find. The AAE Bourbon Street hostel was 18 dollars a night for a dormroom-bed when I was there, but during Mardi Gras it is 100 dollars.
But I'm working on some other opportunities, so let's see if I end up in New Orleans two times during my trip. I wouldn't complain.
