Hi - that's us in Chiang Mai now. Had a good few days in Bangkok but glad to be away from there as it's too hot, too smelly, too busy and too expensive. The grand palace was pretty amazing and we got a tour from a guide who used to be in the Royal Guards, really nice guy who was full of information. Khao San Road was entertaining but got fed up off being invited to ping pong shows. Rik had to decline as his days on stage are over.
We got the night train up to Chiang Mai which was great. Had a few beers with the staff on the train (one of which took a shine to Rik - but he was buying her beers and he knows from experience that kind of charm usually works on the ladies!!). We met a policeman who couldn't speak a word of English but was pretty good on the old air guitar and knew all the words to all the Chilli Pepper/Guns and Roses/Eagles songs! So Rik and the policeman enjoyed a jamming session playing some old classics on their air guitars.
Got to Chiang Mai this morning. Really like it here. Going to book a trek this afternoon, so will be up in the mountains for a couple of days.
Hope everyone good back home.
Speak soon
