My first day in Santiago was effectively a repeat of the day before, we had Monday twice! Never good when you have a hangover. After finally giving in and getting my hair highlighted, I headed to the airport feeling a little more human to meet Shazza. 4 films, 2 meals and countless neck aches earlier (from falling asleep in dodgy positions) we arrive and it's still only lunchtime in Chile! Fighting my instincts to stay awake and beat the jet lag, I give in and go to sleep.
20 Hours later, I'm feeling like my normal self again and ready to take on South America. So we head out in search of breakfast, and after some random waving, sign language and broken spanish we get some pastries in a cute little bakery and coffee for the bargain price of 1 pound. The need to learn Spanish now even more prevalant, we decide to try and book a course in Buenos Aires. We opt for my favourite tourist attraction in any city for the first day to get my bearings, the hop on/hop off tourist bus.
First Impressions of South America, and wait for the surprise...........I LOVE IT!! It's great being back in a place where the history spans more than 100 years, with gorgeous buildings, loads of character and above all a male population who think you are amazing!! All of the people here are so friendly and dying to help, the sun is shining and the scenery stunning. What is there not to like??
So after enjoying the full loop of the city, we get off in the centre of town at the Plaza De Armas for lunch. We all choose a local speciality (we have Jo a girl from our hostel room in tow) Me and Jo opt for Pastel de Choclo, which doesn't have chocolate in it which the name might suggest but is a kind of stew with sweetcorn maize on top, Shazza goes for Cazuera- a casserole with chicken and vegeatbles. All very good choices and ridiculously cheap!!
We then try to get some culture in the national history musuem but fail miserably as all of the displays are in Spanish, so instead I head back to the hostel to sample some local red wine and get another early night.
