Caroline's World Tour
Latest Room Count: 1 Caroline, 1 Sarah, 3 Dutch people, 16 cockroaches. Its a busy little place!
Yesterday was the famous Full Moon Party on Koh Pha-Ngan's Hat Rin beach. And, true to reputation, it was a very cool night, if a little manic! I have never seen so many people crammed on to one little beach, and by all accounts this was quite a quiet one, as we're in the low season, so I don't even want to imagine what its like in December or January!
We've been here a few nights now, so Full Moon was not our first night on the beach. We were there the night before as well, and actually had a better night - we got together with lots of friends from home and from travelling, and it was much less crowded, we actually had room to all sit together! We managed to consume a slightly worrying quantity of buckets though, and so for the actual Full Moon Party itself there were more than a few hangovers flying around! I had expected Full Moon to have something different about it, something to distinguish it from all the other nights on the beach, but apart from a lot more people, there wasn't anything, so the Full Moon Party is basically about a week long!
Our friend Anne came over from Koh Tao for the party, bringing with her a couple of Dutch friends she met while diving. Hyun made the schoolboy error of drinking 4 buckets to himself within about 2 hours, so was back crashed out in our room by about 12! Poor Anne wasn't feeling too great, so she went home as well, so it wasn't much of a party for the Dutch! Sarah and I were slightly concerned as to how we were going to manage to sleep 5 people in 2 little beds, but by the time we got home they'd managed to rustle up a couple of mattresses from somewhere and were sleeping like babies! Wendy told us they'd seen a couple of cockroaches - I think she was a bit shocked by the size of them but I think me and Sarah are getting used to them - there were 4 in the bathroom the night before! We also saw the girls we met in Australia - Fiona, Jemma and Gina - and met up with Bloggs again and my friend Amy and her boyfriend Oli, so it was great to have so many people we knew there.
And apart from partying on the beach we haven't really been up to much, mainly cause there isn't really much else to do! We made the mistake of going on a boat tour of the island - that turned out to be an absolute rip-off! We were all crammed into long tail boats, the boats only stopped a couple of times and there weren't enough snorkels for everyone so pretty much everything we'd been promised about the trip was wrong! We booked it through our hostel though so given our previous experiences with them, I suppose we should have known better!
Despite the horror that is our room, we've really enjoyed Koh Pha-Ngan - partying on the beach with your friends is definitely a good way to pass the time. We're off to Koh Samui tomorrow, where we're going to meet Sarah's brother, and then we'll be back to Bangkok - Thailand seems to have passed by in the blink of an eye!!
