Caroline's World Tour
Well, we've reached the end of our time in Beijing! And I have to say it has been an experience..... We've lined up with the Chinese tourists to take our picture under the portrait of Mao. We've had little children laugh at the sight of us in the street. We've had complete strangers come up and ask to take a picture of us (while others just snap away!). We've been nigh on kidnapped by crazy vendors in markets. We've been nearly run over by at least 8.5 million of the bicycles. We've even managed to make it to nearly all of Beijing's tourist haunts, so despite the weather conspiring against us I think we've done ok!
But of course, if we've made it to the end of our time in Beijing, that makes it the end of our travelling all together. And that is a very strange feeling indeed! It seems like such a long time ago that we were at home, but at the same time, the last 6 months have absolutely flown by. Its been an amazing experience - there've been highs and lows, but thankfully more of the former than the latter! We've managed to make it through without killing each other, and we've even made some new friends along the way and caught up with some old ones in exotic places. I'm looking forward to coming home and seeing you all again, but at the same time I'm definitely going to miss the travelling life! Especially when reality really kicks in and I realise I've been graduated for a year and am still unemployed! Oh well, fun things to look forward to!
Owing to the large cloud still sitting over Beijing this morning (which has cleared quite significantly this afternoon - we fully expect to wake up to blue skies tomorrow!), we decided against trying the Wall again or going to the Summer Palace. Instead we took a wander around Beihai Park, and down Wangfujing Dajie, one of the main streets. We even managed to check out somewhere for dinner and a few drinks tonight, so hopefully we'll be able to go out in style!
