We stayed in the Historic centre of Salvador - Pelourinho, which was more beautiful and colonial than we´d expected, albeit with a dark history of the slave trade. As a result Salvador has a strong African influence. This is evident in the nightly processions of drummers, the syle of the artwork, the street food and the women offering to braid your hair. The hilly streets are cobbled and linned with colourful colonial houses and multiple churches on every plaza.

As charming as it is, after 2days and a night of being hassled by street kids and con artists we were ready to move on. A 7 hour bus journey inland took us to the old diamond mining town of Lencois.
