We are on the final leg. We are now back in Kuala Lumpur ready for our flight home on Tuesday. I am looking forward to getting back to things that we take for granted like 'health and safety', people that queue, and people not shouting 'taxi, taxi' at you. Also my own bed, a good cup of tea with normal milk and some bean jar.
Well, scuba diving in the Komodo Islands was amazing, definitely worth all of the hassle it was to get there. It was a completely different world. The coral was all in such good condition. Occasionly the current would get strong and we would have to find just a small bit of rock to hold on to, but we had difficulties just trying to find a piece of rock without any coral on it. There were sharks, turtles, massive Napolian Wrasse, Manta Rays, just an abundance of marine life. One morning we went for a walk on Rinca Island, home to the Komodo dragons. They were huge and weigh on average 70kg. Our guide only had a long stick for protection, and he informed us that a guide got bitten only 5 days previously and was in the local hospital. Apparently the locals are trying to club together some money to send him to Bali for treatment, its very sad that the National Park won't send him as he is their employee and risks his life everyday to make them money.
After the liveaboard we planned to spend a few days in the Bukit Peninsula of Bali, we ended up sharing a taxi with a German who told us about Nusa Lembognan an Island just a short boat ride from Bali where we can scuba dive with Manta Rays, so within 30 minutes our plans had changed and we were off. We could only stay on the island for 2 nights as we had our flght already booked for Kuala Lumpur, it was a tight schedule but we managed it. The diving with mantas was amazing, one hung around for about 40 minutes just swimming back and forth going right over the top. He was so close that we occasionly had to duck, we got some really good photos. After diving with the Mantas I went for the second dive, Shaun didn't come as he had been having some sinus troubles and a bit of a headache so he stayed on the boat. The second dive was certainly a lot different to what we were used to - it wasn't the greatest dive! I think after diving in such amazing places like Similan Islands and Komodo it makes us realise how treated we have been. Its made the diving elsewhere even better than we first thought, even though at the time I didnt think that was possible.
We then went to Bingin back in Bali for one night, we stayed right on the beach so that we could watch the famous surf. (Alice - thanks for the binoculars, they were a treat and kept Shaun quiet for hours). We then had to get up at 3.30am to get to the airport for our flight. So we are now in Kuala Lumpur, Shaun has gone off somewhere to find somewhere playing the moto gp, so I am doing the blog and then going to get a massage. We are staying in China Town so we are doing lots of last minute shopping.
Well this will be our last blog. So thats it. 4 months is all over.
