We've heard on the grape vine that some one reads this blog at Brownies, so a special hello to Catherine, all the Brownies and the leaders. We hope the Pancake making and decorating went well and your all working hard for your badges.
Last week we ate at a nice restaurant and ordered what was on special that day, Pork curry. Just before we tucked in we over heard someone question what was in the curry because it wasn't pork, it turns out it was Frog, which she still called pork! She said it had been raining a lot the day before which is when they come out, so she caught some and put it on the menu the next day. There were a lot of tiny bones and not much meat but it tasted ok. After we'd eaten we saw a frog jump from the bushes towards our table, which was awkward, but the lady saw him and said that he wasn't fat enough for her curry!
We've seen a couple of good storms and the lightning got pretty close, one time was so close it was deafening, which was brilliant. And when it rains here it doesn't do it by halves.
The next day we went to Koh Rong Island which was almost perfect. We got there, checked in and went straight to the beach. I (shaun) went snorkling while carol stayed on the beach under a palm tree to read her book. Little did Carol know that there were sand flies on the beach which decided to go to town on her right leg. We counted 70 bites in total. 70!!! It was horrible, she didn't stop moaning for days! Apparently they itch several times more and longer than mossies.
Our treehouse on the island was amazing. We did have a mosquito net which was good as we found a big lizard in the bathroom. It was lovely just sitting in the hammock having a nap or reading a book. I (carol) read 3 books in the 4 days. There were 2 dogs which seemed to just hang around, they were quite friendly so we called them Brian and Jeff, and they were extra friendly with each other one night on the beach. When I got up in the night for a quick 'number 1' I would find Brian just asleep on the landing, he didn't even stir. Jeff followed Shaun all the way from one beach to another though the jungle chasing the occasional lizard for about 2km.
On my birthday we went scuba diving which was good. The water here is a very comfortable 30 degrees, even mums might go in the water. We saw lots of blue spotted rays, puffa fish and bat fish. The bat fish were very curious and stayed quite close. Then as we were at the surface beneath us were about 40 yellowtail barracuda. The boat crew knew it was my birthday and between dives everyone sang happy birthday and presented me with a 'pan'cake with a candle that wasn't lit because it was too windy.
We have been in Phnom Penh for the past few days but have just been on a very long 6 hour bus journey to Battambang. It was very long, very hot and very very bumpy. Tomorrow we are hiring scooters again to see some local sights, temples and a trip on a Bamboo train.

Mum Tree house on the beach how lovely, but oh sand flies I hate them yet they love me, 30 degree I might manage a dip in that but for sure have a paddle, if only to get away from the sandflies.
