We spent yesterday and today chilling out in Ayutthaya, the old capital city of Thailand. I think it must be the low season because it is rather quiet here. On the first day we didn't do much as we were tired after the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. We stayed in a cute bungalow (more a shed) in a small garden, the owner is really helpful and friendly. We had some pets of our own in the shed, some ants and a couple of lizards which pooed on the bed a couple of times. After Pete saying that the ants didn't bite, one went and bit him on the bottom, serves him right for doubting me. We visited a sort of elephant sanctuary, but it wasn't at all the elephants were all chained up and couldn't hardly move, so we left straight away.
On the second day we had a massive lie in, before visiting some of the old city ruins and temples, it is amazing to think that these ruins are only 13th/14th century and yet the state they are in you would think they were as old as some of the Roman ruins. Luckily some of the amazing sculpture work still survives, but it is hard to get a picture of what the city used to look like.
A quiet few days really, but next is Kanchanaburi where hopefully we will have lots to do, maybe some elephant trekking and bamboo rafting who knows. We will keep you posted.
