I have now been on Koh Phi Phi for about a week, it has been like a weeks holiday rather than backpacking...as its pretty much just Beach and Bars. Since the Tsunami, Phi Phi has, from what I remember completly changed...last time I was here you could stand on one beach and look across the island to the beach on the other side of the island. Well not anymore, there are more resort type accomodation being build for the holidaymakers...what about us backpackers hey!? Dont get me wrong however as I have loved Phi Phi and it is still naturally beautiful, its just more developed. The nightlife here is good, a few of the bars we have been going to most are Reggae Bar, Carlitos Bar and Hippies...where they all sell the legendary Samsong Buckets! Reggae bar, is the one where they have Thai Boxing every night but with an added twist....basically any 2 people can get into the ring and have a fight. Well Prancy decided it would be a good idea to have a Thai Boxing fight with a guy bigger than him and heavier by about 3 stone. I'll upload videos and pictures including the pre-bout buildup and interviews later! Koh Phi Phi now also has a Tsunami warning system and a route to follow if there is one. So far the light has just kept on flashing amber, which I guess is a good sign...havent had any false alarms yet. A trip to Koh Phi Phi would not be complete without a trip to Maya Bay on Koh Phi Phi Lei...however this time I found a trip where you can camp over on the beach in Tents! It was fantastic, there is no electricity on the island, no running water...nothing so it really was back to basics. We had a BBQ and then sat around listening to a few of the guys play the guitar. well I'm off to Rai Lay Beach tonight and will do some rock climbing, so that will be something new to look forward to
