In our haste to leave Burketown, we were up at 7.00am and on the road at 9.00am. Unthinkable for us. Waved it good bye. Never want to go back there again, unlike other places we have wanted to return to. 800km round trip absolute waste of time and money.
After a huge day driving from Burketown we decided to stop just past Cloncurry. Have had 2 fabulous free camps. The first was Clem Walton Park on Corella lake between Cloncurry and Mt Isa. Stunning lake with brolga's and birds etc. They use water catchment dams here in Qld for recreational use. Lucky things. Luckily I collected a brochure on Mt Isa while in Burketown. We were going to stay a few days but realised while reading the brochure the shops in Mt Isa were not open on Sundays. We got caught in Longreach everything shut at 12 noon Sat and did not reopen till Monday. Hence no food. Lucky we had some meat. Brad had steak with sausage salad.
After a big shop at Mt Isa buying more red wine for Brad. "No selection just overpriced crap" and diesel was $1.58 best price yet. Tomaotes $1.80 kg
Brad was hanging out for a thai or chinese for lunch. He is sick of meat. Yes we never thought he would ever say that. Nothing open for lunch, not even a noddle bar. Disappointed he had a ham roll.
Rolled on to Camooweal on the NT /Qld border Found a river and drove 2 km down the track and camped by the billbong. No we didn't sing Waltzing Matilda. Beautiful water lillies and Brolga's heaps of noisy birds but just fantastic.
Had a camp fire and stayed up till 10.45pm latest for us. Had a salad and guess what Brad scoffed the bowl and scoffed it down. he must be desparate for him to eat green!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heading for 3 ways or Barkely Homestead its 471km to Tennant Creek from here so maybe 2 days. Slowmo drives at 85km. At least i get lots of reading in.
