Who would have thought we would get here!

Left Tony and Jacqui in Winton (home of Waltzing Matilda and Dinosaur Stampede) we both feel as if we have had an over dose of Museums and history. All the museums are fabulous but all standing and reading is tiresome. Had a fabulous free camp between Winton and Cloncurry - Brad had his campfire. Weather is hot during the day but cooler at night. No need for a fire but I am thinking we have a budding pyromaniac in the family. He pokes and prods away at the fire. Still it keeps him busy and we have had damper and all sorts of BBQ steak on the coals. Stopped in Cloncurry and stayed at possibly the worst caravan park known to man. Wal's it was awful. Not a blade of grass . Amenities if you called them that were humpy style. Curtain in the ladies shower no door, wide open to the whole caravan park. Doc Smallacombe and Jenny found us again. They too were horrified at paying $32 for dirt. Needless to say we had hot shower in the van. Bless out little van it saved lots of "what are we doing here??????"

Cloncurry was a shop and stop and thank god we did. Filled the gas bottles etc Diesel reasonable not the half gold bar job as elsewhere.

Headed north to Gregory and stayed 3 days behind the pub down on the banks of a river. Fast flowing Gregory River, beautiful to swim in and drift downstream. Lots if fish. Our indigenous neighbours upset a few folks but I went and had a chat and found out their background etc local Waniji - the water comes from up in PNG underground and surfaces here. There was a B&S Ball one night needless to say they were noisy.

Then we went up 85 km dirt to Adels grove at Lawn Hill or Boodjamulla Nat Park. Fabulous place. Road had been graded so not to bad - we covered all the airvents with 100 mile hr tape and arrived with little dust indoors. Adels grove is beautiful. Huge trees to park under in the Grove. All shade, not so good for the solar panels to work. We canoed up the river and did a walk and Escarpment tours. Had the unfortunate experience of 2 families with 6 kids under 5 parked next door. They started screaming at 5.45am and fought argued screamed until 8am. The parents slept through it all until one kid yelled mummy I hungry. She got up and it quietened down. I had a headache all day from the sudden earpiercing screams. I think they got the message as today they were quiet.

We heard the road to Bourketown was sealed so thought it might be worth a look. Nothing here, no beach, no access to river , humongous crockodiles ate a local boy recently so no free camping here. Park is full but it seems we have no alot to do. I bought prawns and fish so hope they taste good. Leichhardt Falls tomorrow and then down to Mt Isa before heading west to NT.
