Cal's Eurotrip
From Vienna we took a train to Bratislava which took only about 45 mins. But what a difference the two places are to each other. Most of Bratislava is dirty and ghetto looking. There is one part of the capital which is actually very nice, full of cafes and a couple of pubs.
We checked out the Castle there and it was pretty nice, it certainly wasnt anything special like it said in Lonely planet. Windsor Castle still takes the cake out of all of the ones ive been to.
The hotel we stayed at was in the surburbs of Bratislava, about 30 mins away from the main part of the city. What the hotel failed to mention was that the place is located in the 'ghetto' part of Bratislava. The hotel was like a large flat and on the other sides were residential flats. All night we could hear drunkn Slovaks smashing bottles and screaming. We ended up getting used to it though..
Bratislava is definately different from home and im so happy i wasnt born there. Im glad i went to Slovakia just to appreciate how lucky i do have it in Perth. Apparently a lot of the country is full of beautiful mountains and green country side so im probably being a little harsh. The one positive this country does have is some beautiful women. But even so I dont think I will ever really want to come here again.
