Tuesday October 15:
Another reason to go to bed early was seeing the sunrise here in Kamari. It was worthwhile a great way to wake up and start the day. After breakfast in the hotel I went to the local tours office to ask if I could reach certain places walking. As usualy the first response was shock, huh walk?? Well yes! The cute lady did manage to convince me to take a bus to Akrotiri as it was over 30min by car already. But the other route was doable (there's a snake road in the cliff next to town, looks great). So I repacked and double backed back to the tour office and went on my way to Akrotiri.
To be honest I didn't actually know why I should go there but I am glad I did. Turns out its a museum'ish holding a live excavation site of an ancient city of 3700 years old. Quite an amazing site and you can walk through the city itseld at some point. They're not as far as in Pompei I guess but still worth a visit. I hitched along a guides tour and I admit, as several were going on I chose the one with the goodlooking lady.
There's not much in the area and I took the tour bus back and set myself on my way to conquer the cliff. Turned out it was easy enough though probably best to not do so at one o' clock with a scorching sun. After I reached the top I saw a museum of ancient Thera but it was about to close and didn't look so promising so I skipped it. On the way up I had noticed some travellers taking a different route down and decided to do so as well. Turns out it passes an ancient spring with a little chapel. The road down from here was more suited for hiking than the other one (wich was also used by cars) so was a nice hike back.
I refreshed myself and retired on the beach to read. In the evening I ate a local style pizza and watch the Netherlands win! My host wasn't so amused, he prefered to watch a different game. Turns out his akward accent was russian, should have noticed that.
