The last couple of days have been amazing. On Saturday morning we woke up after a night at the bar to find Greg, our barman waiting to take us on a tour of the city ! So after a little rush we set off to the townships of windhoek. We stopped at the local market and it was mental ! There were pounds of meat everywhere with people butchering it up then putting it on the braai for everyone to try. They loved getting their photos taken and were striking many poses with their machetes !
After, we walked around the township where we were treated like celebrities. They persisted on stroking our skin and asking us why we were so white ! They also loved having their photos taken with us and insisted we come back ! However it was eye opening to see what kind of conditions they lived in.
Greg then put us in a taxi and we were taken to a project that offered opportunities to disabled people to make jewellery and such. The lodge where they reside was beautiful and very traditional with straw huts etc...
In the evening we were taken out by our host Robert to Joes beerhouse. I had a kebab with Kudu, Ostrich, Crocodile, Zebra and Chicken. It was amazing but i feel like a proper carnivore. The first time i see these animals and they are on my plate ! But it was a very good night finished off by a game of ring of fire at the bar.
Today the boys left to their project at St Michaels. We were sad to see them go but we are definitely going to meet up soon ! Lily and i just spent most of the day chilling in the pool bar and packing our rucksack for tomorrow. We are looking forward to the 5 hour drive down to Tses (which is pronounced Chess) to start teaching !
Catch for now :) xxx
