Up at 7am. Great sleep.
Off to Toledo at 8.30am.
Toledo was the ancient capital of Spain, until the King of the time, Phillip 11 in 1561, decided that he liked his holiday Palace in Madrid better. Apparently, he liked the hunting in the forests that surrounded Madrid. He hunted bears.
Toledo is situated high above the river Tagus which provided a natural moat for protection in the very early days.
It has been populated since the Bronze Age!!!!!!!!!
It is so ancient!
And being isolated as it is by the river, not a lot changed in the inner city....allowing it to remain in many parts as it was.
This place is magnificent.
The views are astounding.
And the old buildings just unbelievable.
We went with a local guide and stopped the bus to take photos before we actually entered the city.
There was a collective 'WOW' as we pulled up for the first look at the city.
We walked the streets...much too narrow for cars to travel....and heard all the history.
I loved it.
Bought 2 more charms and because I love the 'Tilting at Windmills' hero....small pewter figures of Sancho and Don Quixote.
Both the IPad and IPhone keep freezing.
Which is really frustrating as I have heaps of time to write this tonight.
So here's the short version.
Got back from Toledo...free afternoon and evening. Very hot.
Went for a walk in a wonderful park near the hotel.
Absolutely beautiful gardens....nice to walk in the shade.
Madrid is a very pretty city. And the parks and gardens are just beautiful. And there are so many of them.
Having an early night...only because they will be few and far between from now on.
Tomorrow a full day on the bus to Barcelona.
