Had a bit of a sleep in this morning, just to relax.
Then breakfast on the spectacular 8th floor.
Then off I went.
Expected top of 34 degrees.
Not a cloud in the sky.
First port of call, the Coffee Shop 6 floors below my window to say thank you for rescuing me yesterday.
I walked in.
Absolutely no need for an introduction.
They all just pointed and grinned.
Very funny.
So after many a 'Thank you' ... on my way again.
Down the street towards the river.
Nice cool breeze blowing.
Straight into the main square.
We saw this on the drive with Tiago.
That time though there were hundreds of Portugal supporters watching the huge screen.
It's all still there ready for the next game.
Wandered the Square.
Took the selfie stick.
A few photos.
Then across to the Triumphal Arch facing the main Square.
The Rua Augusta Arch is a stone, triumphal arch-like, historical building and visitor attraction in Lisbon, Portugal, on the Praça do Comércio. It was built to commemorate the city's reconstruction after the 1755 earthquake.
I checked with a policeman for directions to climb the arch and again, off I went.
2.50€ and there is a lift to the 2nd floor.
No stairs.
Just the lift.
I told the young man that I thought that was cheating.
Into to the lift ...
( Easiest climb I've done this trip!)
Then a very narrow, small, circular, marble staircase to the top.
It is so narrow that there is a 'red light/green light' thing happening.
You press the button.
If there is no one coming down, the light turns green and up you go.
Beautiful view from the top.
Over the Square.
The beautiful bridge, river and the huge statue of Christ.
Lots of things to see and pick out on the street below.
I found my Hotel with the magnificent rooftop bar and restaurant.
I've included pictures.
Then wandered under all the archways by this Monument and there was a Sunday Market going on.
I had fun there.
Especially with one lady who made handmade jewellery.
Then wandered again.
Very quiet day today.
I am a little tired so I am just taking things very slowly.
Off the the Square that is near where you stayed Andrew, with the fountains and statue.
Took photos of your hotel, only to come back and discover that wasn't your hotel at all!
Still lots of fun looking.
Back again tomorrow.
Lunch.
More sight seeing.
Watched lots and lots of people queued up to ride the Santa Justa Elevator.
And it was hot standing there in the sun.
So I stood in the shade and watched it go up and down a couple of times.
My plan is to go early tomorrow morning.
And then onto the Number 28 Tram.
And then up to the Castle.
( I can see that Castle through the French Doors as I type this. A bit unbelievable.)
And I am munching on the best biscuits ever.
Bought at at stop a couple of days ago.
Lovely!
Then back to the room for a wonderful nap.
Right into those now.
Developed the habit on the bus.
There is a set of bathroom scales here.
Not that terrific for me, mind you, but great for weighing a case.
YES!!
27 kg.
Just don't buy anything else.
Then, watching the scenery, I could hear lots of chanting and drum playing, but couldn't see anything from the balcony.
So I decided to go and have a look.
Turns out it was a ( very peaceful ) March by illegal immigrants wanting change.
That was interesting.
Very colourful.
They ended up in the main square by the water.
So I had another lovely walk around.
Then back to the hotel.
Up to the rooftop, ready to settle in.
Private function up there till 8pm so I have a table booked for dinner for 8.30pm.
At the rooftop bar.
This place is jumping!
Much better music tonight.
I know these songs!
( Last night was very loud 'Techno')
Didn't seem to match the view somehow.
Tandoori Chicken Salad
Ice cream
Baileys, Cointreau, ice and the view.
Pretty good really.

Andrew Browning Hi Carolyn, Another warm day to enjoy, and a perfect blue sky. Photos are great, brings back memories! If you pass a walk-in freezer in your travels pop in for a visit so you can re-acclimatise for Melbourne! It is soooo cold here (even with thermals on)!!
Mum Morning Sweetie, For a relaxing day you are doing very well, seeing heaps and great photos.Love the one of the Lift, the views of everything.Good to get an idea where it all is.The rooftop must be fun for dinner. The locals seem to enjoy the music, great.Had lunch today with Uncle Trev. They laughed about your experience to get a pin! Also, the balcony lockout, not so laughable though.Nice to thank the people who succeeded in alerting the rescue team. You must have made an impression on them from 6 floors up.Looking forward to the 28 Tram ride.Enjoy.Love you Xxx
