DAY 11: ROCKY STEPS AND CHEESESTEAKS
More unfinished business to deal with today. Last time we were at the museum steps in early 2015, I was hobbling on a dodgy calf from all that walking in frosty DC.
"It's ok, I'll save myself til we return with the tour tomorrow" I said to myself at the time. We all know how that turned out.
Anyway, with drizzle in the skies and dark clouds overhead, we made our way this morning to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, the long stretch of road that leads to the museum.
Running the steps is something I've always wanted to do since watching Rocky for the first time as a kid - and here I was today finally doing just that with my own kid running beside me.
Ok, truth be told, I think the young fella may have overtaken me at some point but regardless, priceless memories were made today. As a wise man once said, "Yo Adrian, we did it!"
From there we headed back downtown to the Reading Terminal Market. In what was becoming a day of firsts, Nic got her wish to saviour an authentic Philly Cheesesteak from their massive food hall.
Travellers Tip: There is a specific way you must order this dish here or earn the wrath of the serving staff.
"One wiz (cheese) wit (onions) with peppers, one wiz wit mushroom thanks".
I thought I nailed it. Three attempts later, the girl behind the counter was giving me that "not another freakin tourist" look. Proud to say I got there in the end.
After lunch and a bit of shopping, we headed back to our hotel to collect our luggage and make our way to the airport. As I type this we're about to start our descent into Nashville.
Can't believe we've only just crossed the halfway mark of our holiday. Looking forward to seeing what the rest of the journey holds!
