DAY 15: BLUES HIGHWAY 61
Today we headed south on Hwy 61, otherwise known as the 'Blues Highway'.
About 90mins in we stopped at Clarksdale for an early lunch at the Ground Zero Blues Club. This club, owned by actor Morgan Freeman, is quirky in that they hand you a set of black markers with the menus, with the instruction 'write what you want, where you want'. Furniture, walls, bar, pool tables, stage - nothing was off limits. It definitely kept Josh occupied while we waited for lunch!
While the burgers and chicken were good, Josh took the deep frying experience one step further for dessert:
Deep fried Snickers bar with ice cream!
After lunch, it was about another two and a half hours to our stop tonight, Vicksburg.
Directly across from our hotel is the Vicksburg National Military Park, the site of a famous Civil War battle. The roads enable you to take a self driven tour of the park. Monuments, signs and canons mark spots of Union and Confederate lines and trenches. You could easily spend a few hours here, but we knocked off our visit in about an hour or so and reached our hotel by about 5pm.
We're off down to the (Mississippi) riverfront tonight for dinner. It'll be something grilled or deep fried I'm guessing!
