DAY 1: TOUCHDOWN IN THE WINDY CITY
Joshua's USA Adventure Episode 3 is officially underway! It's been a long day (a couple of days if you allow for the wonders of international time travel), but here we all are at 10:30pm local time still wide awake.
Although Josh got about 5hrs sleep, the Brisbane to LA leg proved tiresome. Thankfully Nic and I got a couple of hours shut eye on the connecting Chicago flight to try and recharge the batteries.
Our check-in at our first hotel though here at the Trump International Chicago seemed to provide a much needed second wind.
Two words - FREE UPGRADE!
Instead of the standard room I booked, we've scored ourselves a suite on the 18th floor with priceless views across the city and river.
The mirror in the marble bathroom turns into a TV - do I need to say any more?
Feeling revitalised, we decided we'd go out for dinner. Not wanting anything too flash given the long day we'd had, Nic hit up the concierge up for some local casual dining options - so they booked us into 'Benny's Chophouse'. If this is their idea of 'casual', I'd shudder to think what they consider 'fine' dining.
This steak joint was like Cha Cha Char on steroids!
Exhibit A: The 36oz steak at $120 (I think that equates to over a kilo in the metric form?). Before you ask, no I didn't. I stuck to a respectable 12oz serving while Nic even ordered a salad for an entree. Very restrained. Didn't want to go too hard too early in this trip!
Anyway, off to bed now, got a busy day sightseeing coming up - but we couldn't have asked for a better start!
