Craig & Jills Round the World Trip
Once again we had another long drive to our next stop Te Anau, the nearest town to Fiordland, and Milford sound. We continue to have problems getting accomodation, everywhere is completeley full. We got a lovely twin non ensuite room at the YHA! We had 2 beds head to head, stool and a lightbulb! To top it all the hostels are full of old people, and the 2 in the next room were at least 65, and got up at 5.30 and proceeded to keep us awake for the next 2 hours shuffling round. However its cheap which keeps Craig happy!
Tuesday we headed to Milford Sound for our boat trip. Its supposed to be one of the best boat trips in the world. We had a couple of hours cruising through the dramatic scenery. It was cloudy when we got there but luckily half way round the sun came out. The photos probably dont give you an idea of the sheer scale of the mountians, huge cliff faces, and waterfalls. When we got out to the entrance of the sound at the sea, it was easy to see why Captain Cook sailed past twice before spotting the entrance. Its very well hidden with the mountains coming out to sea.
Today we are in Queenstown which is in a really nice location at the side of a huge lake, and surrounded by mountains. Its full of trendy cafes and restaurants, but obviuosly we went for a Kebab at lunch. Hey weve not had one since leaving UK, and boy it tasted good. Almost as good as the pies weve been tucking into. See mum we are eating well! We spent the day enjoying not having to drive anywhere. We strolled round the shops, and went up the gondola for great views of the town and lake. Tomorrow we head off north towards the glaciers.
Happy Birthday Caroline for tomorrow x
